I've realized you don't need to go away to have a getaway. Tight on funds, my husband and I decided to make a trip out of Main Street in Patchogue, which is not even fifteen minutes from our house. First we packed our bags for two nights away. Friday night we took the short drive over to the Hampton Inn in Brookhaven, which is a short drive from Main Street. After unwinding in the hotel room we went down to enjoy a nice dinner at Mangia Mangia on Main Street. This is a great Italian restaurant that is so authentic you wouldn't believe it's located right in the middle of this small town. The food is spectacular, as is the atmosphere and the service. After our meal we went right next door to the Patchogue Theater at which we had tickets to see a show. The theater has a great assortment of plays, dancers, and orchestras to go watch. We happened to see a wonderful orchestra perform. After the play we drove back to the hotel for a nice evening together. Saturday morning we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast at our hotel, and we left at ten to go sailing on the Great South Bay. We brought a picnic lunch with us to eat on the water, and spent hours just enjoying the breeze. That evening we ate dinner at Gallo Tropical GÇô not as fancy as Mangia Mangia but still an excellent restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. That evening we went to see a band play at the bandstand back on the water. We returned to our hotel and left on Sunday morning. It was a relaxing weekend during which we did not even realize we were so close to home! The short commute was so worth it though. |
